Milk Formula Out of Stock

Have you experienced a time when the milk formula your kid takes is nowhere available? This is what happened to me the last time I needed to buy some formula.

My toddler's milk was stage 4, designated as a "Pre-school" formula. I tried looking at similar products from other brands, but thought that the taste might not be the same. (Think cola: Coke, Pepsi, RC Cola, and others, do taste different, right?) So what I did was buy the previous one he drank, which was stage 3, same brand. Yes, the ingredients are somewhat different, but at least I know that he is (or was) already accustomed to it.

My kiddo is now temporarily taking the stage 3 formula, and my wife believes that our toddler hasn't noticed the change. I sure hope the stage 4 formula will be available soon.

Wyeth Baby Formula Recalled

Do you use baby formula made by Wyeth, or know someone who does? Just recently, the Bureau of Food and Drugs served the recall order to Wyeth after verifying confidential information that the formula was exposed to the elements.

Affected products are Bonna, Bonakid, Bonamil, Promil, Promil Kid, Promil Gold and Progress Gold that were manufactured between May and July 2006.

"... the order was made after verifying confidential information that the baby milk had been exposed to the elements during a powerful typhoon in the Philippines last year, but not immediately recalled. ... Wyeth, however, insisted the quality of the milk powder was not affected, and that only the packaging had been damaged in the storm." [Philippines Recalls Wyeth Baby Formula | Yahoo Finance]

My son takes one of the mentioned products, and I'll make sure his present formula supply is not included in the ones being recalled. This is quite scary stuff. I mean, what if the previous cans of formula (the ones already consumed by my son) were actually part of the recall?
